LIFT Marine is a new business operating out of Burlington, on the Southwestern shores of Lake Ontario in beautiful Canada.

Our specialty is connecting everyday people with the boat of their dreams.

It is our belief that there are many people (in our area and around the World) who are drawn to the magic of the sailing lifestyle and who would dearly love to get into our sport but just don't know where to start.

"Well, why not start with a yacht broker?"

Good question.

The answer is simple.

Yacht brokers, while providing an essential service to the sailboat purchasing public, have one essential negative working against them when it comes to welcoming new sailors into the best lifestyle in the World.

They really want to sell you a boat.

This urgent need on their part (and we get it, you have to stay in business somehow) colors their every interaction with you. Say, as part of their interaction with you, it becomes clear to them that the kind of boat you really should be looking at is part of a brand represented by a rival broker. How likely do you think they're going to be to refer you to that competitive brand? Not very. Instead they're likely to try their best to find a boat, within the brands they represent, that will come as close as possible to meeting your needs.

Problem is, when embarking on a purchase as significant as a sailboat, I think we would all agree that we'd prefer 'the perfect fit' over 'as close as possible'.

The problem becomes even more pronounced with used sailboats. Most brokers are going to do absolutely everything in their power to steer you towards purchasing a boat that they are listing. This is to maximize their dollars earned on each transaction, and we completely understand their dilemma.

We meet with you, talk about your hopes and dreams when it comes to engaging the sailing lifestyle, help you sort through what you think is important when it comes to sailing, and weigh that against what we've learned is actually important once you're out on the water on your actual boat. We take our decades of sailboat obsession and put them to work for you. We explore every brand out there within your price range, turn over every rock when it comes to finding used listings that might suit you, and present it all to you in a way that's easy to understand, fun, and educational.

Once you're ready to buy we refer you to a yacht broker (we meant what we said in terms of their value to the sailing industry) and look forward to meeting you on your boat for your inaugural sail. Of course, if you so choose, we can continue to work with you throughout the purchasing process, even handling the negotiating, closing, delivery and commissioning process (don't worry, we'll explain what that means) on your behalf.

It seems to us that when considering what, for some, turns into a purchase in the range of tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars, a little money spent up front to make sure you're making the absolutely RIGHT decision in terms of boat is a total no-brainer.
